Where Lottie’s Tots Began
I’m Emma; founder and director of Lottie’s Tots; mother to 6 year-old Charlotte. I qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2012 and have worked in a variety of early years settings including a special needs school and nurseries.
Lottie’s Tots was inspired in January 2015 as cuts were made to government funded services, leaving myself and fellow families with limited opportunities to access affordable, stimulating groups for our children. I looked into various avenues to start a business and decided a Community Interest Company was the way forward. This means the profits and assets created by the company go back in for the public good and opens doors to funding and support from other organisations.
I ran several fund raising events in the months leading up to the first session of Lottie’s Tots and gathered a great following of families via Facebook, all seeing the need for the groups I was planning to operate.
On Monday 18th April 2015 we opened the doors of St Francis Church in Leyfields with a CD player, a few blankets & some home made shakers! Thirty moms and their babies walked through that door & I haven’t looked back since!
Lottie’s Tots has gone from strength to strength; gathering more followers, more resources, more helpers and having lots more fun along the way! We are currently running four sessions a week, at the Pip Club in Fazeley. My long term ambition is to cover every area of Tamworth with a Lottie’s Tots group, making a fun, stimulating play and learning environment accessible to everybody!
Founding Lottie’s Tots has been life changing for myself, but when I look at the impact it is having on so many families in Tamworth, it has been worth all the hard work as I can see how many people appreciate me adding a service when so many cuts were made.
